American Classic Tea Plantation

In the heart of South Carolina's Lowcountry
a treasure of land for tea was discovered on
Wadmalaw Island

The tea bushes can grow up to 30 feet tall.

Driving into the entrance

Beneath the Grand Oaks tea bushes grow on
the only tea plantation in
The United States of America

Have you ever seen a Tea Bush?

It's truly a miracle of Nature...

Thousands of tea bushes in the fields
they stretch almost as far as your
eyes can see.

GIFT SHOP

Took this picture for my brother
he would have loved all the fresh free tea.

Our trolley ride that took us on a tour of the plantation.
This trolley has some very special history within it.

Any Guesses?

This trolley was used in the Kentucky Derby.
I then started to pay special attention because we've
always talked about going to the Kentucky Derby.

The trolley was used to transport the Jockeys.

14,000 plants will grow in doors
and eventually be transported
in areas on the grounds.

How many miles to the next tea plantation?
Our tour guide told us that the
American Classic Plantation was very small
compared to other tea plantations around the world.
Only five workers and other plantations may have
500 to 600 workers. The plantations would
also be the size of South Carolina.

Factory Tour

Had a hard time getting good pictures because of the mirrors
but it was all very interesting and we learned so much
about how tea is grown and produced.

We had a really great time and our guide told
us that November is the best time to come
because of the changing of the colors
so this is a place that should be put on the list
when visiting Charleston, South Carolina.
